SALT + CHIVE BLOSSOMS
Whenever chives start popping up in my garden, I know spring is around the corner and I have SO many favs with chives’ garlicky flavor…but when they start to show their gorgeous purple flowers, my heart skips a little beat (the healthy kind 🥰). The sweet blossoms only last so long, so I find this easy and nice way to capture not only their light flavor, but the delicate color throughout the fall and maybe winter months when you need an extra ‘pop’ on your dinner plate.
This year, my chives bloomed twice so the second time around, I grabbed what I could and preserved them! Next year…I plan to do this regularly because it’s just such a fun way to decorate the meal.
PREPARATION
-
Allow your chive blossoms to dry out around 3-4 days
-
Wash blossoms, shake excess water, hang dry (if able) or place on a paper towel or towel and lay the flowers out to dry
-
Rotate the blossoms over the next few days (3-4 days)
-
Once dry, pick the blossoms apart and mix with salt
-
Store in a glass container
-
Sprinkle on salts, vegetables, soups, meals for an added chive flavor while enjoying the beautiful blossom colors!
